Beaches

Click any photo for a larger view!

Tunnels: great snorkeling (best in AM-early afternoon before the "trades" pick up)!

Tunnels beach Kauai

Ke'e: good snorkeling, though tends to be crowded. Hike to the right to avoid the crowd.

Secret Beach (Kauapea): Definitely off the beaten track. Absolutely breathtaking scenery, but too rough (usually) to go in the water. Many visitors go "natural".

Secret beach Kauai

Larsen's: Another peaceful place that is hard to leave. Good for beach combing.

Moloa'a Bay: Rarely visited by "tourists". It's precious.

Mahaulepu: Poipu. One of our favorite get-a-ways (but often too choppy to swim.

Mahaulepu beach Kauai

Aliomanu Beach: Down Aliomanu Rd past Anahola store. We're often the only ones there (we've seen monk seals there more than once).

Anini Beach: Good snorkeling. Polo across the way on Sundays (in summer).

Hideaways: Princeville. Gorgeous tiny beach. Definitely worth the effort to get there.

Hideaways beach Kauai

Kalihiwai Beach: Beautiful, 'swimmable'.

Donkey Beach: Hike west to terrific small beaches.

Lumahai: Gotta see it. This is where Mitzi washed that man right out of her hair. Dangerous surf, be careful.

Lumahai beach Kauai

Pakala's Beach: south shore. We like it to watch the surfers. Careful strolling west: a bull lives near the beach!

Polihale: Very away from it all. The longest stretch of beach in all Hawaii (17 miles). Niihau in the distance. Beautiful sunsets. If it's raining at your beach - go here.

Kayak the Wailua river.

A Pacific Cafe: Kapaa ( 5 mins from Lae nani). Excellent Pacific rim cuisine in a casual setting. Make a reservation. If your going to blow the budget on only 1 meal out - this is the place. (try the wok charred mahi mahi)****

Roy's Bar and Grill: Poipu. Fabulous food. Ask for a seat near the kitchen. It's a great show. Make a reservation.***

Hawaiian Classic Desserts Inc: Not just desserts but a restaurant too. Excellent food at a great price. Try the choclate decadence.

Hanalei Dolphin: Hanalei. Long time player. Terrific seafood (lots of food)! Get the Ahi and the steak frys.

Zelo's: Hanalei. Excellent seafood and pasta dishes.

Green Garden: Hanapepe. Local island food, not fancy, but good and very inexpensive. Ask about the family dinner. (They also make the best Mai Tai's on the island in our humble opinion).

Duke's Canoe Club: Nawiliwili (Lihue). Views, delicious food, and reasonable prices. Make a reservation.**

Kintaro: Wailua. Tasty Japanese.

Kalapaki Beach Hut: Kalapaki beach. Burgers.

Hanamaulau Tea House: Hanamaulau. Inexpensive Island/Chinese/Japanese (reserve a garden tea room).
